Hi friend,
To some of you this may sound a bit stupid but to me, it means a lot.
In September 2020 when I started side hustling, all these biggies on the internet spoke about making five figures. I was inspired, and a bit more than I should have been because I thought it was easy.
They made it sound like it's easy.
I wrote down: "Make $10,000 by January 2021."
Because I thought I'd totally get there in 3 months.
The Lie You're Fed From The Internet
It took me 42 months to achieve this goal which I previously thought would take 3 months.
Please don't let the internet fool you, it takes a lot of work.
I think if I worked more I'd get this earlier. But for me, money isn't more important than time so the 2-4h workday works well for me. I don't want to work more than that.
Breakdown
I've clocked in 43 hours of work for March.
Let's round it to 45 if we add some work I've done from my phone too:)
45 hours a month =
- 11.25 working hours a week
- 2.25 hour workday
Not bad at all, if you ask me.
Here's what the breakdown looks like (I still have some money from Medium pending):
I also received another $250 last week but I'll receieve it in April, so that's the month I will account it for.
Here's What Changed
I built an offer that I believed could help people with scaling their side hustles.
All this while I've been aware that I don't sell my digital products to their full potential. But a part of me feels,
It's okay I'll do it someday, not like they're going anywhere.
That 'someday' never comes.
I wanted to do something different, something more active and interactive. And so I created Side Hustle Pro. I thought of it around March 02 and opened 5 seats. They all got sold and we started on March 17.
I didn't even think of a plan B for this month.
It was this and this alone.
I wanted to help a set of people actively to scale their side hustle. What would otherwise take them nearly a year to figure out and get started, I wanted to give them a headstart and do it in under 12 weeks.
It worked. And now I'm excited about how the results would be.
Here's What Didn't Change
Since the beginning of my journey, some things have been consistent. And this is also my advice for you:
- Experiment with new things: I didn't send the emails with the best copy to promote Side Hustle Pro. They were below-average emails that I typed while attending a week-long wedding. Still, they did okay. This brings me to...
- Bias for action: All my products are a result of random experiments backed by quick action. Not the perfect website or copy, but action. Side Hustle Pro doesn't even have a website, it's on Google Docs.
- Delayed gratification: Maybe it's an Indian thing because generations before us were poor and we've grown up listening to stories about how hard they worked. I don't know. But I don't believe in getting results ASAP, I know the good stuff takes time.
- Fun: if the process isn't fun, you won't succeed. If you do it only to make money, you'll make $0. Have fun and everything feels better, your audience feels your energy too.
That's all :)
Love,
N
