It's after years that I've crossed $$$$ on one article on Medium. Check out the screenshot of the stats:

Back in the days (2020-2023), earning $$$ on a story was a minimum, and $$$$ wasn't uncommon:

But I started de-prioritising Medium in 2023 to focus on the business, and I've been public about it, even when I conducted webinars about growing on Medium.

So, here's what helps (super quick tips):

1. Write from a place of fun. The above stories you see that have got $$$$ are written from a mindset of fun and personal experience instead of wanting to game the algorithm or earn money.
2. Even when the algorithm changes, like Medium's did, and it stopped paying me $$$$ every month—show up. Write for the joy of writing because if the algorithm changes how you feel about the art, then you were never in love with it.
3. It's much easier to earn when you get better at writing, and that only happens when you write enough. No shortcuts around that.
