1/ Refreshing stats
Fun fact: stats don’t go up by refreshing them.
Some folks are way too fixated on statistics and try to do everything in their capacity to increase them. They’ll try to chase viral content so their likes go up as that's all they care about.
To do: focus on the process instead so you don’t have to chase temporary virality for cheap dopamine
2/ Too many irrelevant photos
I am guilty for this one too and changed my strategies a few months ago.
They get the likes, but not from people you’d want to like. For instance, a random man liking my photo isn’t the man who will pay for my programs...
I’d rather get less likes and more conversions.
It also just looks BAD.
To do: Play around with quotes and visuals to upload as photos. Experiment with types of content as well (videos, carousels, infographics, etc).
3/ No hooks
90% of posts that I see on LinkedIn don't have hooks. That's why most posts don't work, duh.
They’re just headings or statements that don't give their reader an incentive to click on ‘read more’.
We have an abundance of content available for us to read, why would someone click on a random-ass title?
The hook is your space to get attention.
To do: Use the first 2 lines to create a compelling hook.
4/ Unclear offer
The question
How to make money on LinkedIn?
Has one answer — have an offer.
This could be your services, products, anything.
Whatever your offer is, create content around that topic consistently so you can get work. You can’t get work if you don’t have anywhere in your profile or content that you offer that work.
For example, I will reach out to a video editor who has it mentioned in their profile and has some catalogue of work instead of randomly reaching out to someone.
To do: Update your profile, and have a clear offer.
5/ Bad content
There’s no better way to say this. LinkedIn is not:
- your personal diary
- a place to shitpost
- your ranting place
If your content is bad, don’t expect traction.
Or expect it from people who are irrelevant to your work. Write for your reader, not for your journal.
To do: ask yourself,
“Why should anyone read this work?”
This will encourage you to add value.
Finally
I'm going to leave you with a parting thought. Always remember
- writing consistently helps
- good content overpowers everything
- relevant content > viral content, because....
- more likes and followers don't mean more money
All the best :)
See you next week!
Love,
N
