Hi friend,
If you're overthinking about what to write about, how to start a certain habit you've wanted all year, and are confused about something - this issue is for you.
Overthinking is a loop with no favourable returns.
“Give your mind a job to do, or else it will find a job to do, and you might not like the job it invents.”― Elizabeth Gilbert
Say you start with:
I don't think I'm good enough.
You'll then trickle down to
- reasons you aren't good enough
- statsitics on how many newbies/ businesses fail
- lack of past evidence on being good enough 🤦🏻♀️
The spiral goes on.
It makes you feel worse, you feel hopeless, and you think tht there's no end to a dark tunnel.
So you wake up, brush your dreams away, and carry on with your day. After all, this is what 'normal' people do.
Something that's helped me be more creative is...
Being relaxed about it.
When you're not forcing ideas, they flow to you. When you're trying hard to get an idea... the idea doesn't appear.
“Do whatever brings you to life, then. Follow your own fascinations, obsessions, and compulsions. Trust them. Create whatever causes a revolution in your heart.” ― Elizabeth Gilbert
And when you get an idea, say in the shower, or when you're about to sleep, and you don't capture it - it fades.
Please, please capture an idea the moment it comes. It's why legendary writer Ruskin Bond sleeps with a pen and paper on his bedside! Though I've failed at this advice repeatedly and because I have, I urge you to take it seriously haha.
When you force a business idea, you start searching for it online, see 'top ten money making online businesses,' 'easiest business', and so on.
But when you stop that and just think... peacefully, not out of stress.. on ways in which you can add value.... then it all appears.
You think of what
- you can offer
- helps others
- feels like play to you
Sadly, most people would swipe on Bumble for a date (this isn't the sad part!) but are too distracted to have a date with themsleves (this is).
“The universe buries strange jewels deep within us all, and then stands back to see if we can find them.” ― Elizabeth Gilbert
They keep looking outside for answers but never instead.
And that's because they're operating from a place of stress, fear, and force.
“It seems to me that the less I fight my fear, the less it fights back. If I can relax, fear relaxes, too.”― Elizabeth Gilbert
Sit back relax.
And the good things will find their way to you.
You need to be aware to see them, feel them, and take those beautiful ideas ahead.
All the best!
Love,
N
PS: The quotes are taken from the book 'Big Magic' by Elizabeth Gilbert. I highly recommend it!
