SHS #209: Why Your Content Looks Good but Doesn’t Make Money

The LinkedIn Growth Toolkit has everything you need to grow on LinkedIn this year.

Along with 145 LinkedIn post templates!

Hi friend,

Between July and December 2025, I made $18,000 via LinkedIn brand collaborations.

It took me under 6 hours to write 11 posts.

I was also pregnant... so it was great money for doing 'less work'.

However...

One of my LinkedIn creator friends has 100k followers and charges $200 per post. Another has 30k followers and charges the same.

Many get thousands of likes and make $0.
Some of my posts with under 300 likes attract people to join my $3000 program, Authentic Influence.

In this newsletter, I'll teach you how you can actually monetise your content.

"The modern devil is cheap dopamine." - Naval Ravikant

Here's a pattern I see with some really talented writers on LinkedIn

  • write well
  • slowly get likes
  • write viral-kinda content
  • get LOTS of likes
  • talk about getting likes
  • get followers by doing this
  • talk about getting followers
  • repeat 🔁

The sad part? This doesn't drive income. It only drives likes.

(And some people realise it when it's way too late and they're never able to sell anything)

Most people will never realise this

I've been creating content online since I was 18.

I was an Instagram influencer who quit that life in 2020 (because my phone died, not because I wanted to). Here's a YouTube video on that in case you care at all, lol.

That one move was life-changing for me because I realised I cared about such useless things with so much intensity.

"I can't repeat this outfit."
"I don't look as good as her."
"This food needs a perfect short."

Embarrassing truth: Sometimes I'd spend 40 minutes to get one perfect selfie!!!

What a waste to spend my limited time on this earth getting a perfect photo that others will see for a nanosecond 🤦🏻‍♀️

On LinkedIn, many are stuck in this spiral.

“The unexamined life is not worth living.” — Socrates

The biggest life hack is self-awareness.

Wait, I know you think I'm being all voodoo. But I promise that in the end it'll all make sense.

When you're optimising for likes and conversions, you're operating in life on a surface level.

Like that employee who's waking up, commuting in traffic, doing an unfulfilling job surrounded by people they dislike, coming home, seeing reels to wind down, and sleeping thinking how much they don't want to go to work tomorrow.

They aren't self-aware enough to find work that helps them thrive.

With content creation, it's similar.

You could get all the likes and followers, but people won't bet their money on you unless they trust you.

“If you want to make millions, impact millions.” — MJ DeMarco

Nobody makes money because they want to make money. They make it by

  • creating value
  • being of service

Likes and followers don't do that.

They give you visibility, and then it's on your audience if they want to invest in you at all.

You're 'worth it' if you

  • are honest
  • have an offering that can help
  • address your audience's problems
  • appeal to those who resonate with you
Note: Most of you won't do this :)

Because it looks so... plain. It's not loud and flashy with numbers.

But it brings money into the bank.

Finally

Even if you're chasing numbers, which one do you prefer?

  1. The one in your bank account?
  2. The vanity metric to show off to others?

The catch? Many will say #1, but they're actually chasing the second... without knowing it.

This is where awareness helps, for it is the biggest life hack.

On another note, I had an absolute ball writing this in flow state as my husband puts my 4-month-old to sleep :))

Love,
N
