I quit my job to become a freelance writer. But I accidentally became a solopreneur living the 4h workday.

I obviously didn't think of solopreneurship when I started out because

  • it sounded too good to be true
  • no one around me owns a business
  • felt a bit delusional to dream this high

But one thing led to another, and here we are.

In this issue, I will break it down for you.

Quick Timeline

➡️ October 2021: I was a month into my ACL reconstruction surgery in both knees, and tweeted if people wanted to learn consistent writing from me.

I was bored, ok?

Expected 10 responses. Got 120+.

I led them to a Google Form. 80+ people signed up. I shortlisted 40 from 20 different countries.

Got them on a Slack group. Took weekly Zoom calls for 3 weeks. Got good reviews.

➡️ December 2021: Created a landing page on Gumroad with the first ten seats of this course at $99 and the other 15 at $129.

We sold out in a few weeks.

➡️ January 2022: November 2023: Sold out 8 out of 9 cohorts.

Reduced seats from 25 to 15 starting cohort 3 and introduced 1-1 calls to understand their lives and problems better.

➡️ January 2024: Finished cohort 10. Reduced the frequency of the course from 4x a year to 2x to build my product on solopreneurship.

➡️ January 2025: Started Authentic Influence. In 1 year, we had 36 people from 11 countries 🌏 The results were insane 🔥

➡️ 2026... still running Authentic Influence and building something fun!

Here's how that happened:

1/ Experiment

I have failed so many times. But I keep trying out my crazy idea anyway because... why not? The worst outcome is the idea not working out.

Which is essential.

When things don't work out, you get closer to doing the one thing that does.

What helps is seeing your ideas with an outlook of an experiment instead of going all out.

2/ Your business idea can come from outside!

In my courses, a core element I teach is consistency.

This doesn't come from my education or work experience, it comes from being consistent with exercising ever since I was 18.

Sometimes your strengths at work can pop from outside of work.

3/ Do it for free first

And gather testimonials as social proof. Because people don't buy from a blank page, they invest when they see other happy customers.

4/ Start now, figure it out later

Otherwise, you'll be like most people who wait for the 'perfect time', and never take action.

The internet strongly rewards bias towards action.

Those who start early and show up frequently have an edge over others who are contemplating stuff and waiting to show up when they feel 'ready'.

5/ Don't sit on a cushion of excuses

Most questions that people ask me are SO easy that they can find answers when they see my body of work.

In 2026, information and 'how' is definitely not the problem.

So don't tell yourself that story.

6/ Intention matters

Nobody makes money because they want to make money.

Those who want to write online only to earn from it rarely earn from it.

Build to serve others and add value. Having your heart in the right place almost always works :)

Finally

No, it's not too late.

That's another story you tell yourself to not start at all or wait for a 'better time to start'.

Here's a quick summary of the 6 steps:

  1. Experiment with your ideas
  2. Introspect for strengths in your personal life to use for your business
  3. Do it for free ➡️ Get testimonials ➡️ Use that social proof to sell
  4. Start now, figure it out later
  5. There are no excuses, all your questions are probably answered on the internet.
  6. Build to serve others and add value.

All the best!

I'm excited to see you win :)

Love,
N
