SHS #177: Your First $1000 in One Month on LinkedIn

Reading time: 3 minutes

Hi friend,

Earlier this week, I wrote to you about two people

  • Person A: got $1000 from one client within one month of writing on LinkedIn
  • Person B: is struggling to find clients even after being consistent
I analysed their content, and I'll break it down for you so you can create content that attracts high-paying clients.

In case you missed the post, read it here on LinkedIn.

LinkedIn Mastery

Get my LinkedIn playbook, which has helped hundreds of people grow their brand on LinkedIn.

I write this because the best way to do something is to learn from someone who's done it already.

(Psst...If you're lazy like me, this is much more helpful!)

1/ What you put on the table matters the most

Person A is a public speaking coach and wrote about

  • communication
  • how their clients improve their skills
  • how to speak better in front of people
  • making an impact at work + networking events
  • common challenges their clients face and how to overcome them

These posts are pure value.

Person B is a freelance writer and writes about

  • their opinions
  • freelance writing
  • uses the same selfie across 10+ posts

Ask yourself, whose content is more catchy?

Giving pure value is the only way to get people to read your work.

2/ Likes don't rake in cash

Person B has more likes than Person A because of their photos, and they've been active for much longer.

This is where people get mistaken and measure 'likes' as success.

Hate to break it to you, but

  • Likes don't get more money
  • Relevant engagement changes everything

You'd rather have 1000 followers that are relevant and engage with you than 10K irrelevant followers who simply hit the like button.

So while B has more likes, A's content is seen by relevant people. Hence, conversations leading to conversions.

3/ Pricing

A charges $1000 per client.

B told me they charge $500 to write 15 LinkedIn posts for a client.

B is severely undercharging for their services, and this is firing back instead of helping them by getting them 'more' work.

This is also because...

4/ Credibility 101 - talk about what you know

A is constantly sharing

  • what they've done
  • impact they've made
  • real growth stories

So they're making noise after they've put in the effort.

It's easy to trust them, and put money on them because you know what you'll get in return.

B isn't sharing anything extraordinary. And hence doesn't appear to be the master of their field.

Even with more likes and followers.

5/ Mastery 101

Person A looks like they know what they're talking about, even though their LinkedIn content is all over the place since they're new.

B is a freelance writer, but their own writing is average tbh.

(They took this feedback sportingly and told me they'll work on improving their writing.)

They may be consistent, posting for longer, and have a bigger audience - but they're just okay at what they do - writing. I see nothing good enough to hire them as a writer.

So why would they get high-paying clients?

Or sometimes... any

You don't have to be an expert, but you need to be damn good at whatever little you know.

You don't need to help someone to get from zero to ten, step 3 to 4 is still growth. Show that and deliver it.

5 quick tips so you can start right away

PS: Grab the LinkedIn playbook here.
  1. Talk about what you know. Anything that you're 3 steps ahead of others in or are obsessed with.
  2. The above makes people read your stuff because it adds value.
  3. Aim for high-paying clients. This is also much easier when you're good at what you do.
  4. There's no shortcut to being good at
    1. the skill you sell
    2. writing online
  5. Don't be fixated on likes. It's hard, but it will serve you well.

All the best!

Love,
N
