The biggest notion people have about making money online is that they need some exceptional skill or product.
Now, I don't mean to be rude, but the TikTokers and Insta influencers earning $20K a month - some of them are doing some pretty easy dance steps.
The only difference between you and them is courage.
They dare to put themselves out there.
To talk about fashion, tech, or whatever they're passionate about.
They aren't worrying about what others will think. That's the difference between them and you.
So you don't need something groundbreaking.
You just need to start.
Think of this - what is one thing you are better at than others? Something that people need your help with? Something you're obsessed with?
Create content around it and monetise that!
Now... here's how you can do it via LinkedIn.
1/ Optimise your LinkedIn profile
Most people who tell me they are unable to convert content into clients have this one common problem.
Their profile doesn't even mention their services!
So when I open it and I see someone working full-time, without any content in their domain, how can they expect to get any work?
A prospective client has no clue about their work!
To do
- Make use of your header
- Have a clear 'about me'
- Don't make 'about me' about the tiniest details you've achieved at work, do that in the employment section
- Don't have a long-ass bio. Something crisp. We also don't need your list of certifications in the bio!!!
2/ No running away from this
There is absolutely no running away from doing the real work.
If you don't engage, you'll be talking in an empty room.
If you don't publish often, nobody will see you.
There is no way around showing up when it comes to building a personal brand. You just have to show up!
To do
- Publish at least 3x a week
- Engage with relevant people
(Using this tool will make it easier for you to show up π)
3/ Make use of this
Your LinkedIn profile has a 'featured' section where you can upload your lead magnet.
Don't do this: Many people use it to link LinkedIn posts... which doesn't help.
Here is my friend, Tim Denning's, featured section:
When you click on it, you enter your email. That way you get:
- onto his email list
- this case study

4/ Add CTAs
End your post with a CTA (call-to-action) and experiment. One of my students who has a full-time job started ending her posts with,
Want me to audit your LinkedIn profile? DM me for more info.
She then sent a consultation link to those who messaged.
But she sends that because she has done over 20 free calls and has testimonials... which brings me toβ¬οΈ
5/ Start Small
Do a free discovery call for 15 minutes. Give lots of value so you can present this person with a solution:
"Hey, it was great speaking to you. I'd love to help you with XYZ problem. I charge $X for 1 session, but happy to do four sessions for ($X*4)-25%."
Even with my content, I give 99% for free.
This newsletter is free. LinkedIn content is free. I charge for the 1%.
PS: Don't forget, we have a LinkedIn Monetisation Workshop on Sunday.
To do
- Have a freebie (free calls, checklist, ebook, etc)
- Do free discovery calls
- Collect as much social proof as possible
- Then charge for a premium service on top of this
Now, when it comes to services such as freelancing, do not do free work.
The only 'free' work you should do is your own writing, which builds your portfolio. So writing on LinkedIn and on Medium/ Substack.
The below advice will help β¬οΈ
6/ Be aligned
Create content around what you're solving for.
If you're a life coach, talk about stuff around that. Talk about client wins as well.
If you're a freelance writer, talk about writing and your writing niche. And make sure you write so damn well that your posts become your portfolio.
If you're a graphic designer, speak about this topic, but also have the best damn designs in your posts. And always mention that you're open to work - in your posts, about me, and the featured section.
Finally
Lots of people write about random things without optimising their profiles. One can't see anywhere what they really do and what their services are.
With the internet, you just need to type a bit and get it done.
Think of decades ago when building a brand meant so much physical effort - printing flyers and running around. You don't have to do that anymore.
But you have to
- Optimise your profile
- Show up consistently and engage
- Use the 'featured' section on LinkedIn
- Add CTAs
- Start small - take feedback and collect testimonials
- Create content aligned with your products/ services/ interests
