1. Make it easy
Writing is a beautiful, creative process. And if your motivation to write is solely based on earning money, it'll be very hard.
Make it easier for yourself by
- writing about things you know
- writing about your personal experience
“Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.” —William Wordsworth
2. Make it fit
Chances are that you're making it tough for yourself. But that's not your fault
It's important to make writing fit around your lifestyle and not run after it. If you're working 8 hours a day and then you keep a big task to write from scratch, it'll be difficult to show up because you're already so tired.
When I used to have 10-hour workdays, I edited in the morning and wrote in the evening.
That way, I didn't have to take out 2 hours at once on a workday because that's overwhelming.
Make writing fit around your lifestyle. This is also the exact art I teach in Summit 21.
3. Make it better
Many people show up for long enough with average content and get upset that don't get the results they expected.
Reason - they aren't improving their game.
They're doing what they feel is right.
Instead, I recommend you see others who are doing well. Think of why they're doing a great job and analyse their writing. Learn from their content.
Maybe it could be the formatting or certain techniques they use.
If you have the resources, invest in your learning. The best part about the creator economy is that it has never been this easy to directly learn from someone you look up to.
4. Make it stick
Keep at it for long enough, there's no other 'trick'.
5. Make it fun
If you aren't enjoying the process, you'll
- find it hard to write
- keep refreshing your stats
- feel low when you work and the numbers aren't good
But when you're having fun, you write better and I feel the readers can sense your energy too. Writing from a place of joy is so much better than writing from a place of stress.
Summarising
To be a writer online, you have to write for long enough and be damn good at it.
“A word after a word after a word is power.” ―Margaret Atwood
To do this:
- Make it easy: write about what you know.
- Make it fit: find ways to fit it around your lifestyle so it's easy to show up (join Summit 21 for this hehe)
- Make it better: look at other writers you like to see what's working, and integrate that into your writing. Learn about writing from YouTube, X, books, and courses.
- Make it stick: publish for long enough.
- Make it fun: enjoying the process makes the above so much easier.
All the best and have a great 2025 :)
Love,
